MEET Joseph
Can you introduce yourself and tell us a fun fact about you?
I love to do lots of things out side of work. One of my most resent events was performing at the balaklava Eisteddfod singing classical and musical theatre songs.
What sparked your interest in this apprenticeship?
I love the versatility of the electrical trade and the ability to explore various aspects of power consumption and generation. It offers numerous opportunities for continuous growth in an ever-evolving field.
What’s been the most epic moment for you during your time as an apprentice?
Throughout my apprenticeship, I’ve had the privilege of working with many tradespeople and learning different approaches to the job. Thanks to PEER, I’ve been able to gain experience across various companies, which has been a great opportunity to observe different workplace cultures and business operations.
Have you learned any surprising skills that you didn’t expect?
One of the most surprising things I’ve learned is the privilege of being an ambassador and receiving media training. It has taught me how to communicate effectively and interact with people in different environments, both at work and in interviews.
What’s a challenge you’ve tackled that made you feel proud?
I was working for an electrical company and felt I was doing well, but they let me go, which made me question whether I was in the right trade. Thankfully, PEER quickly placed me with another company, and I was able to regain my confidence and continue building my skills.
How do you think this apprenticeship is shaping your future?
With the additional training and challenges I’ve undertaken during my apprenticeship, I feel equipped to bring something unique to the workplace and continue growing as I progress in my career.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work? Any cool hobbies?
Along with singing, I also enjoy sports like tennis and mountain biking to stay in shape. I also like tinkering in the workshop I built, where I create or repair various projects.
What’s your go-to movie, show, or music that keeps you inspired?
I really enjoy listening to some of Hans Zimmer’s movie scores, as they keep me inspired and motivated for both work and sports.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about an apprenticeship, what would it be?
Getting involved with the community at work and through PEER will enhance your chances of upskilling and help you build lasting relationships that can benefit you throughout your life.
Why do you think apprenticeships are a cool way to kickstart a career?
An apprenticeship is an opportunity to see the things you build come to life, with continuous learning of new ways to execute tasks. These skills serve as stepping stones to building your future, as you witness houses and projects become a reality.
