PEER AMBASSADORS

MEET JOSEF

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a fun fact about you?

In my spare time I do lots of mechanical work on mine and my mates cars.

What sparked your interest in this apprenticeship?

During my time at school I struggled a lot, I knew the way the school system taught people wasn’t the way I learnt best. I’ve always known I wanted to do a trade but plumbing stuck out to me because you do a bit of everything, which I love.

What’s been the most epic moment for you during your time as an apprentice?

There have been lots of epic moments, but I loved competing in the world skills challenge as a first year apprentice, and being apart of the PEER ambassador program. I definitely have enjoyed the people I’ve met so far.

Have you learned any surprising skills that you didn’t expect?

I’ve learnt so much, but definitely have learnt heaps of better communication skills and leadership skills as well. As a plumbing apprentice I’ve learnt so much more, lots of different plumbing skills but also how the process of building are preformed, and many different skills that don’t involve plumbing.

What’s a challenge you’ve tackled that made you feel proud?

Everyone faces different challenges. A challenge I’ve always faced is trusting the process, staying consistent even when times are tough and being open minded, just because one thing doesn’t work doesn’t mean it’s over. I’m proud of the person I’m becoming.

How do you think this apprenticeship is shaping your future?

It’s shaping my future because I’m earning and learning a skill that will be needed forever.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work? Any cool hobbies?

When I’m not working I do a bit of work on my car, and recently my mates have started joining in, we catch up and work on our cars together. It saves us all money and we learn so much.

What’s your go-to movie, show, or music that keeps you inspired?

I like 50 cents music, but it’s really my mum and grandfather that keep me inspired to do better.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about an apprenticeship, what would it be?

Take the risk, no risk no reward.

Why do you think apprenticeships are a cool way to kickstart a career?

Well to start with your earning and learning, but it teaches you so much more then you’ll expect and your working towards being qualified in a trade.
