Why Jamie chose a PEER apprenticeship
Qualified plumber & recently completed PEER apprentice
FINALIST for Apprentice of the Year 2019 (SA Training Awards)
Qualification: CPC32413 – Certificate III in Plumbing
Why did you choose a PEER apprenticeship?
I chose a PEER apprenticeship because I really enjoyed plumbing as a trade, working around talented tradespeople as a labourer gave me a taste of the trade and I wanted to learn it all and become the best at the company.
What were you doing before you started your apprenticeship?
Before my apprenticeship, I was operating hydro jets as a plumbing labourer for nearly 18 months. I spent the last 6 months of this time pestering my supervisor for an adult apprenticeship and kept ramping up my workload to prove I was worth their time.
Why did you choose PEER?
I already knew several PEER plumbing apprentices and an electrical apprentice who had nothing but good to say about the quality of training and the facilities at PEER and that’s why choosing PEER was an easy decision for me.
One piece of advice to anyone thinking about a trade career?
To just pick a trade that suits you and do it. A trade career gives you the chance to work outside, make a good living and the freedom to work for yourself. Having a trade behind you can open so many other doors down the track like even becoming a trainer back at PEER after you’ve been and done it all.
