Recognition of Prior Learning

Whilst it is important to ensure you get thorough training in the course of your choice, there is no need for you to repeat topics that you have previously studied or that you can prove competence in through relevant experience.

Recognition of this crediting process can come in 3 variations: Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Transfer (CT) and Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC). These are distinguished by the way they relate to learning, achieved through formal training and learning accomplished outside the formal education system.

RPL is a process that assesses the individual’s previous learning experience to determine whether they have covered any of the required learning outcomes in the course they are currently undertaking.

CT assesses any course, subject, modules or unit of competence that the individual has previously studied and the course he/she is looking to gain credit for, to determine its relevance to the required learning outcomes.

RCC is an assessment process that looks at the individual’s formal learning where an individual has successfully completed the requirements for a module or unit of competence and is now required to be assessed to ensure that the competency is has been maintained.

If you feel that you may be eligible to receive credit for some part of your course please contact PEER on 8348 1200 to make an appointment to discuss your training arrangements.

  • I was good at Maths so I was drawn to an Electrical Apprenticeship. PEER offer really good job security and experience because they send you to different host employers and we gain a variety of experience which you probably wouldn’t get with a direct employer.

  • Everyone has been supportive at PEER and at my host company. I didn’t have trade experience before entering my apprenticeship so everyone has been patient with my learning. What I enjoy about my apprenticeship is the mix of practical and theory, it’s a good balance.

  • The Apprenticeship has been awesome. I’m learning from teachers who are Electricians. I’ve also enjoyed getting the different tickets and licenses.
