_module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Workplace inspections<\/h2>\n<p>The main function of inspections is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>identify hazards in the work environment<\/li>\n<li>monitor expected organisational standards<\/li>\n<li>improve health and safety practices and procedures<\/li>\n<li>measure WHS legislative compliance<\/li>\n<li>ensure work area is safe and environmentally sound<\/li>\n<li>maintain worker involvement and participation in health and safety activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_accordion admin_label=&#8221;Accordion white background&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Identify areas to be inspected&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The workplace manager in consultation with the health and safety representative (HSR) and employees are to identify internal and external areas within the workplace to be inspected.<\/p>\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Internal areas<\/li>\n<li>office area and meeting rooms<\/li>\n<li>hallways<\/li>\n<li>stairs and landings<\/li>\n<li>staff room<\/li>\n<li>bathroom facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>External areas<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>car park<\/li>\n<li>work sheds<\/li>\n<li>construction sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Frequency of inspections&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Worksite inspections should be carried out as determined by the level of risk to the area and work practices. The following offers a guide to the frequency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High risk areas \u2013 monthly (or more frequently if the level of risk indicates)<\/li>\n<li>Medium risk areas \u2013 3 monthly<\/li>\n<li>Low risk areas \u2013 6 monthly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An assessment of each individual area should occur to determine the frequency.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Participation in workplace inspections&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>For best results, a manager and at least one other worker should be involved in the worksite inspections.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the checklist to be used.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct an inspection by walking around the workplace.<\/li>\n<li>Identify any physical hazards and areas of non-compliance against the checklist.<\/li>\n<li>Record all findings, providing specific comments, ensuring form is approved and dated and includes personnel conducting the inspections.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure responsibilities, priorities and time frames are listed when determining corrective action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following should be noted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>slip and trip hazards<\/li>\n<li>relevance and adequacy of signs with a health and safety focus<\/li>\n<li>condition of safety signage<\/li>\n<li>general housekeeping<\/li>\n<li>damaged equipment, plant and building<\/li>\n<li>wrapping\/crushing\/entanglement\/severing hazards<\/li>\n<li>lighting and noise<\/li>\n<li>emergency equipment, inspection of testing and tagging<\/li>\n<li>storage practices<\/li>\n<li>labelling and use of hazardous substances<\/li>\n<li>access and egress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Document and take corrective action&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If a hazard or a non-compliance is identified corrective action must be identified. The responsibility for each corrective action must be allocated to a person or persons and include time frames and priority.<\/p>\n<p>Priority should be determined by the level of risk posed by the hazard.<\/p>\n<p>The following gives an indication of time frames required for each priority:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Priority &#8211; Time frame &#8211; Responsibility<\/strong><br \/>High &#8211; Immediate action required &#8211; Manager or CEO should be advised<br \/>Medium &#8211; Needs to be actioned within 2 months &#8211; Supervisor or manager<br \/>Low &#8211; Needs to be monitored, action can be planned &#8211; Supervisor or manager<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Review outcomes&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]The workplace manager is to review the completed workplace inspection checklist(s).<\/p>\n<p>The workplace manager in consultation with employees and the HSR is to implement controls to address any hazards identified and recorded in the action plan.
