The implications of this policy are that workers are required to avoid manual handling whenever possible and if not possible to avoid utilising mechanical assistance whenever possible to undertake hazardous manual tasks.<\/p>\n<p>To meet its obligations under the \u2018minimal lift\u2019 policy PEER Construction will implement actions including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thorough risk assessments of all identified hazardous manual tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Provision of suitable lifting equipment for hazardous manual tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Development of safe work procedures both client specific and generic, to outline how to undertake the hazardous manual tasks safely.<\/li>\n<li>Training of employees in manual handling principles and how to undertake the safe work procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage reporting of any manual handling incidents or hazards.<\/li>\n<li>Investigation of all incidents where warranted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_accordion admin_label=&#8221;Accordion white background&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Manual handling techniques&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If you are required to do any manual lifting, you must implement safe lifting techniques:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Know exactly where you are going to move the object to before lifting anything.<\/li>\n<li>Check the pathway is free from any obstructions and that the walking surface is in good condition.<\/li>\n<li>Adopt a stable position with feet apart and one leg slightly forward to maintain stability.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that you are wearing suitable footwear.<\/li>\n<li>Get a good hold on the load and hug it close to your body where possible. Bending at the back, knees and hips at the start of the lift, is preferable to fully bending the back or squatting.<\/li>\n<li>When carrying, keep the load close to your waist for as long as possible. Put the heaviest side of the load closest to your body.
