Environmental policy
PEER Construction is dedicated to the provision of successful outcomes that are environmentally responsible to our clients, our employees and the community.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to guide the PEER Construction approach to environmental management.
Scope
This policy applies to all PEER Construction employees, contractors, apprentices, and subcontractors,
Objectives
PEER Construction will:
- conduct all operations in accordance with relevant environmental legislation, codes and standards
- identify and manage significant environmental impacts and risks
- use processes that do not adversely affect the environment:
- minimise waste, prevent air, water, and other pollution
- minimise health and safety risks and dispose of waste safely and responsibly.
- conserve natural resources by ensuring responsible waste management practices are consistently followed, including recycling and correct waste disposal
- ensure all hazardous substances are disposed of in accordance with the safety data sheet or manufacturer’s specifications
- use energy efficiently and select renewable over non renewable energy sources where feasible
- implement suitable erosion, sediment control and pollution control measures as required
- maintain a healthy working partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and our clients as part of our commitment to the protection of the environment
- provide adequate information and training to enable environmental impacts and opportunities to be identified, prioritised and managed effectively
- encourage all employees, apprentices, and subcontractors to take personal responsibility for environmental issues
- act promptly and responsibly to correct conditions that may endanger health, safety and the environment
- report conditions that may threaten health, safety or the environment to authorities and affected parties promptly
- provide appropriate resources to fulfil these objectives.
Reducing waste
Employees are to:
- order only the amount of supplies you need for a job, especially perishable materials such as sealants
- order the right size and specifications for materials
- buy materials with little or no packaging where possible
- make sure materials are delivered, stored and handled to avoid damage
- plan jobs to minimise off-cuts, for example from copper tube, plastic pipe or pipe insulation
- work with clients to make sure that the phasing is correct, and no rework is required
- report any faults in tools, equipment or materials to their manager.
