Course Aim

To provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to safely test electrical power tools in accordance with Australian Standard AS/NZS3760. This course will enable participants to meet WHS Act and regulations that stipulate all electrical power tools, RCD’s etc used on a construction site, must be tested every three months.

  • Outline electrical fundamentals
  • List the effects of electricity on the human body and methods of reducing electric shock
  • Interpret and implement testing procedures of AS3760
  • Test portable electric power tools RCD’s, EPOD’s and extension cords
  • Arrange for identified faulty components to be repaired by a recognised competent person

Course requirements

  • AS/NZS 3760 (can be purchased through SAI Global, PEER has loan copies available)

Students are required to have the following:

  • Pens/pencils
  • PAT testing equipment is provided but students can bring their own

The Department of Education and Training collect the required information on this form for use by the Commonwealth Department of Education Science and Training. This information is collected for the purpose of auditing participation and the monitoring and reporting of training outcomes. The information you provide may be accessed by officers of these two departments and by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) for the above purpose.


You will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical. You may be required to undertake a drug and alcohol screening You may be required to travel over an hour to some jobs and you may be required to work some weekends and overtime. If you're unable to do so, please advise us in your application. You will be required to undergo a national DCSI Child Related Employment Screen clearance. You give permission to be photographed for our internal records if you are employed. You may be required to work at heights and sometimes in confined spaces. Please advise us if you are unable to do so. You may be required to undertake an aptitude test.
