Full School Year Course
Summary of the Program
This program is a basic introduction to an apprenticeship covers the introductory competencies all new Apprentices are taught; OH&S, Hand and Power Tools, Welding (Oxy and Arc), Copper Fabrication, Levelling and Sheet Metal work. This course is offered to Year 11 and 12 students and no prior experience is required. The course is structured to provide classroom environment learning, including practical sessions, as well as self organised work experience. This provides students with a full overview of the construction industry as well as the opportunity to liaise with possible employers. After successful completion of this program the student will be awarded the Certificate I in Construction (Plumbing).
Number of SACE Units
Subject to new SACE Policy.
When
One day per week for the full year commencing February 2010.
Where
PEER VEET, 1042 Port Road, Albert Park SA 5014.
PEER is located near Bus Stop 27. The closest train station is Cheltenham.
Structured Work Placement
4 weeks within the year. This work placement is organised by the student.
Special Requirements
Steel capped safety boots.
Anticipated Cost per Student
$1,986 (invoiced to the school and costs split over 4 school terms).
Payment Options
An invoice will be sent to the school and the school will then follow up with the student/parent for payment. Students should speak to their school VET Coordinator to enquire about any possible subsidy.

Written and Practical Assessments.
Course Pathways/Pre-requisites
Future training in this area includes a Pre-Apprenticeship Program or an Apprenticeship. Whilst there are no pre-requisite reuqirements for this course it is recommended that all students have a good understanding of both English and Mathematicss.
