Security Systems (Fast Track) (NUE480 & NUE483)

Enrol Now

Course Aim

This course is to enhance existing knowledge and skills required to be able to competently install, maintain and advise customers on aspects of security systems in domestic and small commercial installations.  It is designed for people with significant experience in the security industry, but no current license.

Duration

  • 21 hours

Course Content

  • Legislative requirements and standards.
  • Physical and electronic security devices.
  • Operation, installation and maintenance of security systems, detection equipment and control panels.

In South Australia, a Security Agent's Licence is required to be held by anyone employed in the security industry, whether working as an employer, an employee or a sole trader.  This training course meets the mandatory requirement for anyone wishing to obtain a 'Class 5 Security Agent's Licence'.  This class of licence allows the holder to sell (or rent), install, maintain and advise clients about security systems and related equipment.

It is strongly recommended that Class 5 Security Agents also hold an Open or Restricted Registration for Telecommunications Cabling.  This is necessary as alarm system cablers need to comply with ACA regulations as security equipment is usually intended to be connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network.

Pre-Requisites

  • Sound grasp of basic electrical technology
  • Open or Restricted Cabler's Registration is highly recommended.

To gain a Security Agent licence to work as an employee the applicant will also need to complete the following:

  • Basic OHS&W training (NBB002)
  • A Commonwealth Police Check
  • Some home study is required

Structure

  • In class or correspondence available.
