Business Skills Vouchers

Pursuing a trade or technical vocation through an Australian Apprenticeship is a very important first step towards a rewarding career.  As an Apprentice or newly qualified tradesperson you have many options available to you, including owning and running your own business.  To help you towards that goal, the Australian Government is providing Business Skills Vouchers to eligible Australian Apprentices and skilled tradespeople to undertake accredited business skills training.

What are Business Skills Vouchers?

Business Skills Vouchers valued at up to $500 are available to Apprentices or newly qualified tradespersons in traditional trades, as a contribution towards the costs of undertaking accredited business skills training.

Am I Eligible?

You will be eligible to apply for a Business Skills Voucher if:

  • You are undertaking an Australian Apprenticeship in a traditional trade, and have completed the second year of your apprenticeship, that is, you are in your third or fourth your; or
  • You are a newly qualified tradesperson in a traditional trade, having completed your Australian Apprenticeship within the past two years.

What Training Can I Use the Voucher For?

You can use your voucher for eligible business training units that are part of qualifications in the Business Services Training Package, other relevant training packages or a nationally accredited business course.  Training may be undertaken during work hours if your employer agrees.

The voucher cannot be used for units that are already provided as part of your Australian Apprenticeship Training Plan.

Where Can I Use My Voucher?

You can use your voucher at any training organisation approved to provide voucher eligible business training units.  To view the list of available business training units and find the training organisations approved to deliver them, visit www.skillsvouchers.dest.gov.au

For more information call Australian Apprenticeships referral line on 13 38 73 or visit the Australian Apprenticeships website at www.australia.gov.au/australianapprenticeships.
