AUSTUDY

What Is AUSTUDY?

AUSTUDY provides support for students and Australian Apprentices (Apprentices or Trainees) aged 25 and over.

Who Can Get AUSTUDY?

You can get AUSTUDY if:

  • You are a full-time student aged 25 and over undertaking an approved course at an approved institution approved courses generally include secondary education courses, undergraduate courses, associate diplomas and some other diplomas, TAFE courses and some post-graduate courses or you are a full-time Australian Apprentice (Apprentice or Trainee) aged 25 and over with a current Australian Government registration identification number.

You Must Also:

  • be an Australian permanent resident;
  • be in Australia on the day you claim; and
  • have lived in Australia for a total of two years.

How Much AUSTUDY Can You Get?

The amount of AUSTUDY you can receive depends on:

  • your income and assets;
  • whether you are single or have a partner;
  • whether you have dependent children;
  • whether you are a long-term income support student;

When Can You Start Getting AUSTUDY?

You must lodge your AUSTUDY claim form within 14 days of first making contact with Centrelink and, if you are eligible, your payment may start from the date of your first contact.

New Apprentices can telephone Centrelink on 13 3633 or apply online at www.centrelink.gov.au and follow the online services links.
